weblog :: the.rumpus :: archives Tuesday, December 23, 2003 More Firefly Stuff Fox TV (the child-eating, brain-damaged ogres I mentioned in my last entry) still has the old Firefly website online. It is chock full of good things, including interviews with Joss and the cast, a breakdown of the writing process by Jane Espenson, and production artwork. Check it out. http://www.fox-tv.com/firefly/index.htm :: 12:55 PM :: :: link to this post :: Wednesday, December 17, 2003 Joss Whedon's Heartbreaking Work of Staggering GeniusFirefly, my friends. Firefly. I'm watching the DVDs now, and they're breaking my heart. This show was so full of goodness it's no wonder it was cancelled. Anything that beautiful had to be destroyed by the child-eating, brain-damaged ogres that run Fox Television. Listening to the commentaries and watching the interviews confirms it: The cast and crew were all deeply in love with the show. It was the best show they had ever worked on. Their eyes light up when they talk about it. They are on the verge of tears. For a TV show that ran half a season. I'm right there with them. If you haven't yet watched the show, I highly recommend it. Even if you don't normally like science fiction. Or westerns. Depsite its trappings, it's not a genre show. At one point on the commentary track, Joss says "You can't take the sky from me. Well... actually, you can." It's just so sad. It has the same feel as if Peter Jackson made one LotR film, but couldn't make the rest. Can you imagine listening to him tell you what he had planned for the second and third films? So sad. But Joss ain't licked yet. He gets a twinkle in his eye when he says that there is more Firefly story to be told "in another venue." The feature film is in production. I can't wait. :: 10:17 AM :: :: link to this post :: Monday, December 15, 2003 Trogdor, LEGO style.Behold his majesty. If this is not funny and/or cool to you, you are not a geek. Tell your friends.
