weblog :: the.rumpus :: archives Thursday, October 31, 2002 It's been decided. My NaNoWriMo novel will take place in Rocket City, the retro sci-fi setting of my forthcoming RPG project, Danger Patrol. I'm going to work on the novel when I want to procrastinate on the game, and work on the game when I want to procrastinate on the novel. I'll be posting excerpts from the novel in a separate blog starting on Friday. I'll post the link here and in the Words section. The main character is no longer a used car salesman, so that one is up for grabs, people. My character is a jetboy, Rocket City's answer to the bicycle courier. But instead of a bicycle, he has a high-performance rocket jetpack and a license to fly without traffic restrictions. Of course, he gets tangled up in Something Bad and then we have ourselves a story. :: 5:27 PM :: :: link to this post :: Wednesday, October 30, 2002 The Shadow Knows:: 12:13 AM :: :: link to this post :: Tuesday, October 29, 2002 Reading: Jose Saramago, All the NamesListening to: Sing Sing, The Joy of Sing Sing Playing: Hitman II, True Combat Dreading: NaNoWriMo Jon, Scott, Matt, and I have been doing a little self-portrait "photo-battle" thingy for a while now. Basically, we take pictures of ourselves and post them somewhere, and comment on each other's work. It's been fun. Today I found a groovy little website where people have been doing this sort of thing for a long, long time. It's called The Mirror Project. Check it out. I have three days left to come up with an idea for my NaNo novel. So far, all I have is a character that is a used car salesman who is also an expert in feng shui. An actual storyline would be nice, however. I think aliens and online forums are involved somehow, but it's just all too vague. Goal for tomorrow: come up with a nice, simple plotline for the book. :: 1:08 AM :: :: link to this post :: Friday, October 18, 2002 From the PowerPoint Anthology of Literature:Nabokov's Lolita as a ppt slide. The verdict so far: two thumbs up. The third episode (with the seductress/evil chick) cinched it for me. The writing is just as snappy as Buffy's, and the characters are pretty great (though not as charming as the Scooby Gang, yet). If you've been napping and letting this one pass, it's time to get on the ball and stick it in the ol' TiVo."Are you familiar with the chain of command? It's the chain I beat you with if you don't follow my commands." :: 7:22 AM :: :: link to this post :: Thursday, October 03, 2002 Buffy quote of the day:"Ready for some reconnaissance?"
